Donald Stuart (b.c.1740)
Donald Stuart of Leanchoil, near Forres, Morayshire
He farmed at Leanchoil, on the edge of the Abernethy Forest. His father (brother of the 1st Laird of Cuilt) was descended from the 1st Laird of Auchtow, son of Duncan MacRobert Stewart, 3rd Laird of Glenogle, Perthshire. As a Jacobite, it is thought that after the Battle of Culloden his father sought refuge under the protection of Clan Grant in Moray (his wife's family), as he was originally from Balquhidder, Perthshire. Donald was the maternal grandfather of Lord Strathcona of Montreal.
