David Stoddard Greenough IV (1844-1924)

Merchant & Real Estate Developer, of 89 Franklin Street, Boston, Massachusetts

He graduated from Harvard and moved to Elmira, New York, where he was secretary of the Utica, Ithaca & Elmira Railroad Co. In 1881, he returned to Boston and joined Abram French & Co., Dealers in China & Crockery. He was a member of the St. Botolph and Country Club of Boston, and the University Club of New York. In 1879, at Detroit, he married Minnie, daughter of Samuel and Janes Fenton Lewis, and they had two children. They initially lived at the old family home (see images) at Jamaica Plain which had been in his family since the Revolution. However, he sold it, likely for development. By then, the area had become "a streetcar suburb, with many older estate lots subdivided and homes demolished for commercial buildings or smaller homes. Luckily, (his) old estate was purchased and saved by the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club".
