David Matthew Clarkson (1759-1815)

David M. Clarkson, Shipping Merchant, of New York City

He owned a successful shipping business at New York in partnership with his wife's brother, Garrit Van Horne, and his own brother, Thomas Streatfeild Clarkson. They owned several ships and did "a large foreign trade" which they ran from their offices at the northwest corner of New York's Stone and Mill Streets.
