David Davis Walker (1840-1918)

"D.D. Walker" Co-Founder of Ely, Walker & Co., of St. Louis, Missouri

He moved to St. Louis where he became a dry goods merchant, becoming the largest wholesale importer of dry goods west of the Mississippi River, and J.C. Penny became one of his biggest clients. By 1914, he had become one of the 7,300 millionaires in the United States. Ely & Walker Co. continues today, selling western-style clothing. He is the great-grandfather of U.S. President George H.W. Bush.
