Capt. David Abeel (1705-1777)

Dry Goods & Provisions Merchant, of New York City; Captain in the N.Y. Militia

He was born in Albany. When just a teenager, he went to New York where he was apprenticed to one of his Schuyler relations in the dry goods business. Soon after reaching his majority he engaged in the flour and provisions business in which he was successful for many years. Signed by Col. Leonard Lispenard, he was appointed Captain in the New York Militia Infantry, retiring in 1772. In 1726, he married Maria, daughter of Garret and Maria (Abeel) Duyckink. They had four children.
