Dave Hennen Morris (1872-1944)
Dave Hennen Morris, U.S. Ambassador to Belgium
He was born at New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from Harvard, New York Law School and Columbia University. He was attorney to the Lone Star & Crescent Oil Company of New Orleans, that had the largest contract for oil out of Texas with the United Gas Improvement Company of Philadelphia. He was also an attorney to the New York & Port Chester Railroad Company, and manager of the Morris Park Racing Association. He was a co-founder and President of the Automobile Club of America. He was the President of the New York Medical College & Hospital for Women; Chairman to the Executive Committee at the New York Orthopedic Dispensary; President of the Board of Trustees at Barnard College; and, served as U.S. Ambassador to Belgium from 1933 to 1937. In private, he bred and raced horses and played the violin. He married Alice Shepard, grand-daughter of William H. Vanderbilt, and they had six children.
