Daniel Torrance (1815-1885)

Vice-President of the New York Central Railroad

He was born and grew up at Saint-Antoine Hall, Montreal. He went to New York City for the family shipping business where he married Sophia, daughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt. They were the parents of three children: (1) Adelaide, Mrs Meredith Howland  (2) Alfred Torrance, "the gentleman rider" whose wife, Louise, remarried his cousin Frederick William Vanderbilt (3) Marie, Mrs John Aspinwall Hadden
