Daniel Fuller Appleton (1826-1904)
Daniel Fuller Appleton of New York City & Ipswich, Massachusetts
He was born at Marblehead, Massachusetts. In 1846, he came to New York City and became a partner in Robbins & Appleton. From 1857, they owned the factories which became the Waltham Watch Company that for more than 50-years led America in the manufacture of clocks and watches. He was an active member of the Republican Party and divided his time between New York City and his family's 300-year old country estate, Appleton Farms, at Ipswich, Massachsuetts. His first wife, Julia, was the daughter of Nicholas P. Randall, of Manlius, New York. After her death in 1886, he married Susan, daughter of Professor John P. Cowles, of Ipswich. He had five children.
