Col. John Taliaferro (1656-1715)
"The Ranger" of "Powhattan," Justice, Sheriff & Burgess of Essex Co., Virginia
He was a Colonel in the Virginia militia but first served as a Lieutenant in the Rangers, hence he is referred to as "The Ranger" to differentiate him from his son of the same name who was also a Colonel in the Virginia militia.
