Charles Temple Dix (1838-1873)
Marine Artist, of Rome, Italy & formerly Aide-de-Camp to General Dix
He left America for Barcelona in 1865 and went from there to Rome where he settled. In 1868, in Kensington, London, he married Camilla Ottilie Watson, a niece of the famous Anglo-Irish art historian and author, Anna Brownell Johnson, and a pioneer of the women's rights movement in the U.K. Charles had become a promising marine artist (following the Hudson River School) before his untimely death in Rome, having already exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. He died without children.
