Maj. Charles Stewart (1670-1722)
of Gortlee, Co. Donegal; Officer in King William III's Army
He fought as a junior officer for King William III at the Battle of the Boyne (1690) and was awarded with a small estate, Gortlee, in County Donegal. He was later promoted to the rank of Major. His younger brother, Robert (b.1674), is the ancestor of the famous Irish politician, Charles Stewart Parnell. Charles and Isabella were the parents of just one son, Robert, whose children sold the Gortlee estate.
