Charles Shirley Carter (1840-1922)
M.D., Surgeon in the C.S.A., of Washington D.C. & "Morven Park" Leesburg, Virginia
He was born at Annefield, Virginia, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania (M.D., 1861). He served as a Surgeon with the Confederate Army during the Civil War, and afterwards became Vice-President of the People's National Bank at Leesburg, Virginia. In 1867, he married Mary, daughter of Thomas Swann, Governor of Maryland. They had four children and lived between 1430 "N" Street, N.W., Washington D.C., and "Morven Park" (pictured) at Leesburg, Virginia
