Charles Kneeland (1808-1881)

Merchant, of 6 East 55th Street, New York City & "Fairlawn" Lenox, Massachusetts

He was born in New York City and acquired a liberal education before joining the old cotton house of Bogert & Kneeland of which his father was a member. He became a partner in 1829 and remained with the firm until its dissolution in 1870. He married Joanna, the only daughter and sole heiress of Philip J. Hone. They lived between 6 East 55th Street, New York City, and "Fairlawn" the summer home they built at Lenox, Massachusetts, in about 1860. They were the parents of four children (listed).
