Charles Henry Payson (1853-1933)
Charles H. Payson, of H.M. Payson & Co., Portland, Maine
He joined H.M. Payson & Co., founded by his uncle in 1854. Having taken an active role in the Portland Water Company, Charles expanded that interest into selling bonds for numerous other water companies which eventually saw him become the owner of several of them. He co-founded the American Water Works, the Guarantee Company Ltd. (1886), and the American Water Supply Company (1888).
