Charles-Frontenac Bouthillier (1844-1927)

Charles F. Bouthillier, of Chateau Bleuri, Sainte-Thérèse, near Montreal

He was born in Montreal and grew up between his grandfather's townhouse, the Maison Beaubien, and their country estate, Outre-mont. Although he embarked upon a legal career and was admitted to the bar of Montreal in 1867, he was also an amateur architect. In 1883, he bought the Rosemere estate at Sainte-Thérèse-de-Blainville overlooking the Mille-Îles River. There, he designed and built the Chateau Bleuri - named for his grandmother's family, the Sabrevois de Bleury family - in the Norman style (see images) and moved there permanently from 1887. Two years later (1889), he married Gwendoline Sills, daughter of William Sills and Ellen Adele Routh. They lived at the Chateau Bleuri where he died in 1927.
