Caroline (Lord) Brown (b.1871)

President of the American Women's Club of London; Caroline Louise (Lord) Brown

She served as President of the American Women's Club of London at 46 Grosvenor Street from 1916 to 1938. In 1931, in conjunction with the United Nations, she helped establish the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas (FAWCO). According to the American Women's Club of London website, "she believed that expatriate American women could be effective in demonstrating tolerance, goodwill and generosity while living abroad. The AWC is still an active member of FAWCO and contributes greatly to its efforts here and abroad, forming links with American women worldwide." She was the wife of Curtis Brown, one of the most important literary agents in the United States and Great Britain, whose company that still bears his name continues to be among the world's leading agencies today. They were the parents of three children and lived between 27 Cheyne Walk in London and "Peck Farm" at Whitney Point, New York. Mr. & Mrs. Brown never relinquished their American citizenships and frequently visited the States.
