Capt. John Wormeley (1754-1809)

of "Cool Spring" Frederick Co., Virginia; Captain in the Royal North Carolina Infantry

He was educated in England and matriculated at the University of Glasgow in 1773. On the outbreak of Revolution he sided with the Loyalists, fighting as a Captain in the Royal North Carolina Regiment of Infantry. At the conclusion of the war he swore an oath of allegiance to Virginia. From his father, he received 2,680 acres in Frederick County as well as personal property.
