Gen. Brayton Ives (1840-1914)

President of Northern Pacific Railway, Metropolitan Trust & New York Stock Exchange

He lived between 33 East 39th Street, N.Y.C., and "Chelsea" Ossining, New York. He co-founded the Grolier Club in 1884 which was created to promote book-binding and book-making as an art. He was a collector and owned the famous Gutenburg Bible which he sold with other rare books at auction in 1891 that raised a total of $121,375. In 1915, after his death, his collection of rare swords was sold to William Thompson Walters.
