Bernard Marsham Hallward (1882-1977)
D.S.O., former Major in the Rifle Brigade; of Mountain Street, Montreal
He was a maternal grandson of Henry Hoare, Partner in Hoare's Bank, of Staplehurst Park, Kent, by his wife Lady Mary Marsham, daughter of the 2nd Earl of Romney. He was educated at Winchester and Balliol College, Oxford, and was Vice-Consul at Moscow in 1910. In 1925, he married Hon. Alice, only child and sole heiress of Lord Atholstan, of Montreal. He was fluent in German, President of the St. Raymond Paper Company and Vice-President of the Montreal Star. He lived in a house designed by Robert Findlay on Mountain Street, Montreal (see images), built in 1925 as a wedding present from his father-in-law. He and Alice were the parents of two sons.
