Benjamin Tappan (1747-1831)

Dry Goods Merchant, of Tappan & Whitney, Northampton, Massachusetts

He started his career as a gold and silversmith apprenticed to his future father-in-law, a nephew of Benjamin Franklin. He and his wife had their portraits painted by Gilbert Stuart in 1814. They were the parents of eleven children, ten of whom (listed) lived to adulthood.
