Benjamin Chew (1878-1938)

Capt. Benjamin Chew, of Radnor, Delaware County, Pennsylvania

He was born in Philadelphia. He was educated at Penn Charter School; St. Paul's School, Hanover, New Hampshire; and, the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris. During World War I, he served in the Quartermaster's Department of the Officers' Reserve Corps, and later pursued a career in real estate. He was Master of the Hounds at the Radnor Hunt Club, a yachting enthusiast and big-game hunter. He belonged to the Philadelphia, Gulph Mills Golf Club, and the Brook Club of New York. He died at his winter home in Boca Grande, Florida and was survived by five children. His son, Samuel, was the last of the Chew family to live at Cliveden, built by their ancestor in 1767.
