Arthur Edward Abbott (1863-1944)

Arthur E. Abbott, of Montreal

He was born at Montreal and was educated at Bishop College School, Lennoxville, and Trinity College School, Port Hope. He entered the Bank of Montreal as a clerk in 1881. In 1887, he set out on his own accord and became a partner in Abbott & Co., and the Metropolitan Rolling Mills. In 1889, he established A. E. Abbott, real estate and insurance brokers. He was manager of the Drummond Building, agent for the Island Land Company Ltd., and a director of the Dominion Transport Company. He was a member of the Montreal Real Estate Board and the Montreal Board of Trade. His grandson, the celebrated actor Christopher Plummer, recalled him as having, "the most explosive laugh".
