Anthony Morris (1654-1721)

Founder of the Morris Brewery, Judge, Preacher & Mayor of Philadelphia

He was the son of an English sea captain and came to Philadelphia via Barbados in 1682. In 1687, he erected a malt house and brewery on Front Street below Walnut Street. He was appointed a Judge, Member of the Provincial Governor's Council, and Mayor of Philadelphia. In his latter years he was a Quaker Preacher.
