Anthony Lispenard (1739-1806)

Capt. Anthony Lispenard, Brewer & Land Developer, of Canal St., New York City

He was a member of the Electoral College in 1800. He demanded the right to a secret ballot - some believe so he could vote for Burr instead of Jefferson - but was pressured into voting publicly for Jefferson and the resulting tie threw the question to the House of Representatives, where Jefferson was finally elected. In 1764, at Trinity Church, he married Sarah, daughter of Andrew Barclay and Helena Roosevelt.
