Ann (Lawrance) Bolton (d.1854)

Mrs Ann (Lawrance/Lawrence) Hawkes, Bolton

Her portrait show here was painted by Thomas Sully in 1807. It was originally a full-length portrait, showing her holding out the skirt of her dress and dancing. But her father (who paid $80 to have the picture painted) considered it a frivolous pose and had it cut down to its present size. It passed down to Elizabeth's grandson, R. Forbes Hawkes, a member of Mrs Astor's "Four Hundred".
