Andrew Drummond Reford (1869-1948)
Captain Andrew D. Reford, of The Guard House, Knowlton, Quebec
He was born at Montreal, and started his career gaining experience in father's principal enterprises. In 1901, became a Lieutenant with the Canadian Mounted Rifles and served in South Africa on the Cape and the Transvaal. On the outbreak of war in 1914 he was living at his parents' home, 260 Drummond Street, and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 3rd Canadian Field Artillery. Having been promoted to Captain, while attached to the 298th Army Field Artillery Brigade Ammunition Column, he was court-martialled for drunkenness and was dismissed from service in June, 1917. The following month he was married in Paris to Anne-Marie, daughter of Marie-Adrien-Ernest de Nonancourt (1854-1932), a French artillery officer and a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. Returning to Canada, they lived at The Guard House, Knowlton, Quebec, and were the parents of a son and a daughter.
