Alice Burwell (Preston) Smith (1928-2017)

Mrs Alice Burwell (Preston) Smith, of "Fairfield" Richmond, Virginia

She was President of the Virginia Garden Club and Chairwoman of the Historic Garden Week. She was a descendant of some of Virginia's most notably early dignitaries such as Lewis Burwell, Mann Page II, and Robert "King" Carter among others. In 1948, she married Parke F. Smith, a Virginian who flew Spitfires with the Royal Air Force during World War II. They lived with their four children at Fairfield in Richmond, the magnificent historic 18th century mansion she inherited.
