Alexander Ellice (1743-1805)
Fur Trader and Merchant, of New York, Montreal & London
He died leaving an estate valued at £450,000 which included nearly 350,000 acres in New York and the Canadas, as well as property in Prince Edward Island, Britain, and elsewhere. He had intended to retire to the Seigneury of Villechauve (324-square miles) which he purchased from the Marquis de Lotbiniere and where he built a large manor-house, renaming the sub-fiefs of the seigneury for members of his family.
