Abraham Van Buren (1737-1817)

Captain Abraham Van Buren, of Kinderhook, New York

He was orphaned by the age of three, but grew up to become a prosperous farmer and the owner of a tavern at Kinderhook, New York. During the Revolution, he served as Captain of the 7th Albany County Militia. In 1776, he married Maria, daughter of Johannes and Jannetje (Van Schaick) Goes. They had five children who survived to adulthood including Martin Van Buren, 8th President of the United States.
