Villa Rosa

Milford, New Haven County, Connecticut

Built 1914, for Sylvester Z. Poli (1858-1937) and his wife for whom the house is named, Rosa Leverone (1869-1960). Poli came to America from Italy, and having started life making wax figures his career in sideshow entertainment led him to own over 30 Vaudeville theaters. Aside from the mansion, there were ten further cottages on the estate that were left to his wife and five children. The mansion was inspired by the Nyala Farm and was an inspiration for the historic Villa Lewaro.

My great uncle and aunt own this beautiful home. I spent many years of my youth visiting for family functions and while my dad helped paint the gold leaf on the ceiling. Lavish parties and walks down the gazebo to watch the sunset were my favorite.
