Mellody Farm

Mellody Farm, Lake Forest, Illinois

Built 1910, for J. Ogden Armour (1863-1927) and his wife, Lola Sheldon (1869-1953). After Ogden's death, Lola commissioned David Adler to build her a new home, Suffield House. Mellody Farm cost $10 million to build and landscape, sitting on a 1,200-acre estate that encompassed two 10-acre lakes. It became famous for Mrs Armour's prize-winning roses and Ogden's equally successful thoroughbred horses. Today it makes up part of the campus of the Lake Forest Academy.
