Houghton Hall
Houghton, Norfolk
Built 1722, for Sir Robert Walpole (1676-1745), Prime Minister of Great Britain. Noted for its exceptional Palladian architecture and Walpole's collection of art that even in its time was considered one of the most important in Europe. Today, it is home to the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley but the house and gardens are open to the public during the summer, from May through September.
