Heveningham Hall

Heveningham Hall, Heveningham, Suffolk

Built 1778-1780, for the bachelor Sir Gerard Vanneck (1743-1791), 2nd Bt., M.P. The house was designed by the architect Sir Richard Taylor (1714-1788), the interiors were by James Wyatt (1746-1813), and the grounds were laid out by Capability Brown (1716-1783). In 1994, the estate was purchased by Jon Hunt, founder of Foxtons Estate Agents. He and hsi wife have carried out extensive renovations, returning the hall and grounds to their former glory, with the help of landscape architect Kim Wilkie. Though a family home, Heveningham hosts an annual classic car event, the Heveningham Hall Concours d'Elegance, as well as the annual Heveningham Hall Country Fair, which raises money for local charities. The hall is connected to the Wilderness Reserve Project.
