Oliver Bronson House
Hudson, Columbia County, New York
Built in 1812, for Samuel Plumb (1772-1839) and his wife, Hannah Scovil (1776-1858), who purchased the 263-acres on which the house stood in the preceding year. In 1835, the Plumbs sold their home to Dr Robert G. Frary (1795-1862), who was then Mayor of Hudson and he subdivided the property. Three years later (1838), Oliver Bronson purchased the house and the 80-acres on which it now stood. His wife was the sister of Robert Donaldson who two years previously completed Blithewood, "one of the most charming villa residences in the Union". Almost certainly through this connection, Alexander Jackson Davis redesigned and expanded the Bronson house as it is seen today....
