Chateau des Grandes-Brosses

Built in the 18th Century, it was significantly expanded in 1920 by the Eugene Langdon Wilks (1855-1934), a great-grandson of John Jacob Astor, who grew up between New York City and Cruickston Park before building Langdon Hall, also in Canada. He and his second wife, Marguerite (1880-1961), lived here from about 1920. Eugene died here in 1934 and his widow and their three daughters remained here until the Second World War when it was commandeered by the French Army and they returned to Langdon Hall. The château still stands, though it is currently unoccupied.
