Blickling Hall
Blickling, Norfolk
Built 1616, for Sir Henry Hobart (1560-1625), 1st Bt., M.P., Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas. He built the mansion over the ruins of an older one of the same name that had been the home of Thomas Boleyn (1477-1539), 1st Earl of Wiltshire, and this was where all three of his children were born, including Anne who married King Henry VIII and was the mother of Queen Elizabeth I. In 1940, Blickling Hall was gifted to the National Trust and today the house and its magnificent gardens are open to the public. The staircase was replicated at Ronaele Manor in Pennsylvania.
