4 Chesterfield Gardens
Mayfair, London
Built in 1870, from 1899 this was the home of the American socialites Bradley and Cornelia (Sherman) Martin. Their daughter, the Countess of Craven, lived next door at No. 3 (since demolished, its replacement can be seen on the right in the photo) and had the interior walls knocked through to connect up with her mother. Today, the mansion is the Egyptian Cultural Institute.
