24 N. Washington Square, NY

Built circa 1830, even back then this row of townhouses was one of the most fashionable in the city, and they remain so today. In the 1840s, No. 24 was the home of Noah T. Conkling, dry goods merchant, of Conkling, Jonas & Co. By the 1880s, it had become the home of John Hagy Davis (1843-1926), a wealthy banker who also lived at other times in London and Paris. Davis' son, John, was the uncle-by-marriage of Jackie (Bouvier) Kennedy and his daughter became the Marchioness of Dufferin & Ava. "Washington Square" is the title of the popular book (that has also been made into a film and play) published in 1880 by the famous Anglo-American author, Henry James (1843-1916), whose grandmother lived at 18 Washington Square North.
