From the #1 bestselling author of The Secret Wife comes a story of love, passion, and tragedy as the lives of Jackie Kennedy and Maria Callas are intertwined―and they become the ultimate rivals, in love with the same man.
The President's Wife; a Glamorous Superstar; the rivalry that shook the world...
Jackie Kennedy was beautiful, sophisticated, and contemplating leaving her ambitious young senator husband. Life in the public eye with an overly ambitious--and unfaithful―man who could hardly be coaxed to return from a vacation after the birth of a stillborn child was breaking her spirit. So when she's offered a holiday on the luxurious yacht owned by billionaire Ari Onassis, she says yes...to a meeting that will ultimately change her life.
Maria Callas is at the height of her operatic career and widely considered to be the finest soprano in the world. And then she's introduced to Aristotle Onassis, the world’s richest man and her fellow Greek. Stuck in a childless, sexless marriage, and with pressures on all sides from opera house managers and a hostile press, she finds her life being turned upside down by this hyper-intelligent and impeccably charming man...
Little by little, Maria’s and Jackie’s lives begin to overlap, and they come closer and closer until everything they know about the world changes on a dime.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2025I loved this novel. It kept my interest right up until then final page. I plan on adding more of Gill Paul to my library.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2022What a surprising gem this novel turned out to be. Alternating between Jackie Kennedy and Maria Callas’s points of view, this narrative was extraordinarily fascinating. One of the ways I measure the success of a novel is if I find myself looking forward to opening up my Kindle and seeing what’ll happen next. And once I’ve finished, finding myself missing reading about them. This is one of those books, and now that I’ve finished it, I find myself looking forward to seeing what other novels this author has written.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2020Gill Paul makes it clear that the conversations of Jackie and Maria are based on her own imagination and not fact. I was thirteen when JFK was assassinated starting a life long obsession with the Kennedy's. Gil Paul has written what many people like myself guessed was the real reason Jackie married Onassis. It's a wonderful story of two outwardly strong women carving a life around a man whose wealth may buy security, protection, and anything else these women need.
Beautifully written, Jackie and Maria brings the social morals of the 50's and 60's to the forefront, showing the obstacles women had to overcome to find peace and happiness.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2023I don't know how to describe my feelings about this story. I have long been interested in Jackie, so I had to read this. I read the nonfiction book about Jackie written by her personal body guard who greatly admired her. Another must read story. Maria Callas being with Mr. Onassis for so long prior to Mes. Kennedy entering his life was not totally news to me. I was a child when all this was happening. Anyway, please read this compassionate story about intertwined lives of these famous people. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2022It's been such a long time but I do remember a lot of this. She does a great job of tying these two relationships together with the stated time lines. Of course the intimate parts are fictional but it makes for a read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2024Fiction but lots of fact too. Really enjoyed.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2021Book Club discussion. Most members enjoyed the book but all agreed it made for a simplistic read, a book you could zip through on an airplane or on the beach.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2021I was intrigued when I read the description of this book and it did not disappoint. I knew nothing about Maria Callas and very little about Jackie Kennedy after the JFK years. The author did well in filling that gap and laid the ground work to be invested in both women’s stories. It proved to be a scandalous and glamorous page turner that kept me on my toes as the women’s lives become intertwined through Onassis. It will be a great summer read for historical fiction lovers as well as Jackie Kennedy enthusiasts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Most Intriguing Book on Jackie and Maria
Though classified as "a work of fiction", it is evident that the author has thoroughly researched the significant and important stages/highlights in the lives of these two famous women. This is also why most of the fictional conversations and interactions in this book appear "natural" , flawless, and believable.
I was mpressed at how the author, all throughout the book, managed to present and retain each Lady's personality, individuality and dignity.

5.0 out of 5 stars I learned a great deal about Maria Callas
I really enjoyed this book, it was well written and the author tells a wonderfully detailed story about these two fascinating women. I highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars it is what it is - fiction
As a huge fan of Maria Callas I had to read this to see how the author portrays her and Jackie. There are certain elements I found uncomfortable which I personally felt shouldn't have been included, as mentioned by an earlier reviewer Maria was a very private person and had very few true friends she could confide in and it did make me feel that it was borderline disrespectful to her memory as the greatest female artist of her time. Likewise with Jackie there was one bit which I really didn't want to read about and questioned why the author would add such graphic detail - but as an earlier reviewer wrote 'sex sells'. As a fictional book it was ok, easy to read so great as a holiday book. It hasn't put me off from reading another one of her books when it is reduced and I would advise readers to take the whole content with a pinch if salt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating historical fiction about an iconic love triangle
I have always enjoyed stories about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, whether biographical or fiction.
I was really excited to read this book when the release date was announced, and I purchased it ahead of time (pre-release). I was especially happy when it arrived. It's an intriguing story about the love triangle between Jackie O, Maria Callas and Aristotle Onassis. The book is rich with detail, especially the undercurrent of Jackie's sister, Lee Radziwill, and her dalliances with Aristotle (prior to Jackie's marriage to him). I could not put this book down but at the same time, I did not want it to end.
I'll be honest: I was hoping for a more explosive meeting between the two women but maybe that wasn't their style...
This was my first reading of a book by Gill Paul. It was so well-written that I felt I was watching it on the sidelines, almost as if it were a movie. I have a few other books written by her so it definitely won't be the last; in fact, I will prioritize them on my never-ending TBR.
