"All the memories come back, no place in the world as lovely as Hammersmith Farm," Jackie wrote in a letter to her mother upon departing Hammersmith Farm, following the first presidential visit in the fall of 1961. Hyannis Port is most commonly associated with the Kennedy presidency, but the truth is that Hammersmith Farm was Jackie's preferred getaway, providing the privacy she so passionately desired. Jackie arrived in Newport in 1942 just before her thirteenth birthday and emerged as "Queen Debutant of the Year" five years later. "I remember seeing her once as a debutant," recalled a Newport contemporary, "I remember catching my breath...as she walked down a flight of stairs...she was so regal...I've never forgotten that moment." Jackie's Newport takes you through her early years, to debutante, to Senator's wife, to America's First Lady where she emerged as an international force beguiling world leaders. And finally; "With majestic pace and instant dignity, she disciplined our grief, made us proud in our shame, and gave us gentle strength to nurture future Americans." Bringing "every woman a new grace, every wife a new radiance, every mother a new tender courage," as she etched herself into the soul of America, guiding the country through the darkness of that November weekend in 1963. Jackie's Newport brings a fresh look into the inner strength, courage and dignity of the woman who over fifty years later remains America's First Lady.

Review

"She truly is a National Treasure..." Sinibaldi "captured it all, beautifully and heart wrenching at the same time...Great writing." Paula S. "If I knew nothing of this event I would be able to picture it in full color and in every detail because of Sinibaldi's words. Amazing. Beautifully written." Lynda F.

From the Author

"It only took about three weeks after the inauguration," wrote Jackie's social secretary, Tish Baldridge, "for those of us in the White House to realize...we had a huge star on our hands."  Jackie received nine thousand letters per week, mostly from women wanting to know everything from her brand of shampoo and lipstick color to how many rollers she put in her hair at night and what baby food she fed little John.Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy was thirty-one years old when she entered the White House as First Lady of the United States. She was the third youngest woman to serve in that capacity and the first to be born in the twentieth century. By the summer of 1961 she had: captivated the Canadians, enraptured Charles de Gaulle and beguiled Nikita Khrushchev. In the words of one seasoned diplomat she "proved herself more valuable to United States prestige than ten divisions."A woman of unfathomable inner strength; she had weathered the loss of three children and the difficulties of a marriage that, at times, appeared doomed. By all accounts, the death of her son Patrick in August of 1963, had served as a catalyst, bringing her and Jack closer than they'd ever been. She awoke filled with hope the morning of November 22, 1963 and hours later she was reaching for him when a bullet tore through his brain. Summoning strength and courage while overwhelmed with a paralyzing, numbing grief, she guided her children and the country through four of the darkest days in its history. Refusing to accept no for an answer she set about to shape her husband's legacy taking on, among others, the Secret Service, the church hierarchy and J Edgar Hoover along the way. It is my hope that Jackie's Newport will bring a deeper understanding and appreciation of the woman whose life continues to touch and inspire, not only Americans, but people around the world.

Among Raymond Sinibaldi's passions are baseball and history. His first book, The Babe in Red Stockings was published in 1997 and co-authored with David Hickey and Kerry Keene. A chronology of Babe Ruth’s time with the Red Sox, it gives an in depth account of the first five years of his remarkable career. It would be fifteen years for his second book Images of Fenway Park (2012) again co-authored with Hickey and Keene.

Since then, he has produced one a year: Spring Training in Bradenton and Sarasota (2013), 1967 Red Sox, The Impossible Dream Season (2014), 1975 Red Sox American League Champions (2015). In 2016 came 61 Motivational Stories for Every Coach of Every Sport, Co-authored with longtime baseball coaches Craig Faulkner and Joe Komoaroski.

The year 2017, produced John F Kennedy in New England, which was actually fifty years in the making. Captivated with the fact that his maternal grandfather, William F Kelly, served as Kennedy’s East Boston campaign secretary in 1946 and 1952; the seven year old Sinibaldi's passion was lit during Kennedy’s bid for the presidency. Devastated by the death of the President, he grew with a penchant for anything Kennedy, which would ultimately lead him to the volunteer position of docent at the JFK Library from 1989 through 1992. With the centennial of John F Kennedy’s birth approaching, Sinibaldi reflected upon the formative years of his youth and the impact President Kennedy had on his life. Within that reflection, he realized how much JFK’s life had marked and shaped his own. Thus giving birth to John F Kennedy in New England; in which he captures JFK at home with his family and friends doing what he loved the most: sailing at the tiller of a ship, playing golf, piling kids on a golf cart for a ride to the candy store, simply reading and being President.

In 2018 Sinibaldi returned to his baseball roots with Modern Images of Fenway Park. With 90 photographs never before published, this takes a fresh look at America’s most beloved ballpark. Included will be insight into the making of the Ted Williams Jimmy Fund Statue, for which Sinibaldi served as consultant to sculptor Franc Talarico.

On June 1, 2019 Globe Pequot Publishers released Jackie's Newport; America's First Lady and the City by the Sea. Jackie's Newport provides a fresh look at America's First Lady, unveiling the inner strength, courage and dignity of the woman who still captivates and inspires people around the globe. All woven around the backdrop of Newport, one of her favorite places.

A month later Arcadia Publishing and the History Press unveiled Sinibaldi's John F Kennedy, From Florida to the Moon. Just in time to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Neil Armstrong's "Giant leap for Mankind," Sinibaldi spins the tale of the nascent days of America's space program and JFK's relationship with the Mercury 7.

A regular guest on WBZ radio’s Jordan Rich Show for many years, Sinibaldi was also a part of the special Baseball From the Beginning, A History of Spring Training in Florida (see youtube links) He has twice spoken at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Combining skills honed by 26 years in the classroom and an unbridled passion to his subject matter, Sinibaldi is available for book talks and presentations, on any of his books, at your library or organization. He can be reached at

Just in time for summer vacation, this is the perfect summer read.

The story of Jackie Kennedy, First Lady: the woman who enthralled the nation and the world. You will be moved and amazed by this woman who embodied class and dignity when most of us would have crumbled. The book chronicles her time as the First Lady and the many heartaches she endures, including a detailed description of how she handled herself, her family, the nation and the world in the hours following her husbands assassination.

Read her story, and fall in love with Jackie all over again.

This story is beautifully written. A read for every young woman. The author does an excellent job in conveying - how with grace and dignity, a Lady Jackie Kennedy carried our nation through one of the most difficult times in its history, all the while having to deal with her own pain and sadness. I clearly saw how Newport was her safe haven, which she carried in her heart when not physically there. Mary

I absolutely loved this book and being able to learn about Jackie as I was not born! So it was en excellent way to learn more about her and her bravery and how she dealt with so much at such a young age.

I loved this book about Jackie and her wedding at Hammersmith Farm! I am a Rhode Island resident and lived in Newport. One of my cousins was married at Hammersmith before it was sold to a private owner. We sat in the living room during the reception surrounded by personal photographs of Jack and Jackie (many that are pictured in the book). Anyone who has Newport on his/her list to visit in the near future should read this book. It names all her favorite spots almost as sight seeing guide with a great story. It takes you through Jackie’s journey of love and loss with Newport as the backdrop.

I.definitely have mixed feelings about this book. First, it was certainly interesting, well researched and well written. Since the book is titled Jackie's Newport, I had expected it to revolve around the Newport locations relevant to Jackie's life, which it does for a while, but only for about the first half of the book. The rest, and nearly the entire second half of the book, focuses entirely on JFK's assassination and the days that follow, all taking place in Texas and DC. Newport is almost never mentioned again. Again, it's well researched and interesting, but it's well-trodden ground, and completely removed from the book's title.

For those of us familiar with Newport, I'm sure the expectation was that this book would be an in-depth examination of the people and places connected to Jackie in Newport. Unfortunately the author skimmed the surface of that topic before heading off in a completely different direction. Was there not enough information away to fill an entire book on the subject?

I try to read all things possible about Jackie. This book does tell a story, but the poor writing makes reading the book a trying, arduous experience. But, if you are interested in Jackie, this probably (or possibly) should be included in your list of things to read about her.
